UUs and the Charter for Compassion

What is the Charter for Compassion

The Unitarian Universalist Association has endorsed the Charter for Compassion.  You can see their endorsement here.

It is often reported that "when I heard about the Charter for Compassion I thought, 'these are UU beliefs and values' ".  The Peace Ministry Network encourages you, your church and the UUA to fully support this movement.

The Charter for Compassion

What is the Charter for Compassion

"The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the centre of our world and put another there, and to honour the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and respect."

So reads the opening paragraph of the Charter for Compassion crafted by people all over the world and drafted by a multi-fath, multi-national council of thinkers and leaders.  The originator of the project was theologian, Karen Armstrong.  The UUA has endorsed the charter and encourages congregations to do the same (www.uua.org/news/newssubmissions/151228.shtml ).  You can visit their website and affirm the charter at www.charterforcompassion.org .
